My New Favorite Song

Seriously, I can't get this out of my head!!

From Scott Adams:
HIT SONG WRITTEN BY COMMITTEE
==============================
Recently on the Dilbert Blog, I mused about the seeming randomness of the lyrics of popular songs. And I challenged my readers to submit random lyrics of their own that could be combined into a song.Lots of people submitted their random lyrics, and German band RIVO DREI put the best ones together, added music, and created a surprisingly great little song. One of my blog readers took it an extra step and made a music video using nothing but images from the Internet. You might be surprised how well it came out:

Marin's BIG post

Just to prove that we haven't dropped off the face of the planet, here's a large update on us.

Forgive me for not posting for awhile, we've switched our internet around a little and after 2 days, an hour long phone call w/ at&t, in which I talked to 4 different people and had to dismantle my wires from the computer so I could stretch the router from the kitchen to the desk and plug an ethernet cable in the back, thus making my room look like a bad science project, our internet is back up and working! Hurray! I feel connected to civilization again!

In case you haven't noticed, the weather has been bad up here all weekend (and last week, too.) We spent most of the weekend holed up in our warm house avoiding the ice storm and 6 inches of snow that followed. Needless to say church was cancelled (again, for like the 5th time this winter.) The good news was we spent most of the weekend cleaning and organizing and I can offically say that we are FINALLY moved into our home and all our boxes are unpacked (or repacked and stored if its things we don't need right now.)

This is very exciting news because now we can finally paint Sariah's new bedroom (she'll be moving to a new room and out of the "nursrey" at about 18 months and into a big girl bed.) I've included some "before" photos in the slideshow below, which aren't really before photos, since before these pictures was the mess of big boxes. So these are before decorating photos.

Sariah had her 15 month appointment today. She's offically 19lbs 15oz. (still 1 oz short of 20lbs!) and 29 inches tall. That puts her at 10% for weight and 11% for height. She must of just had a growth spurt because she did jump from 5% to 10% in weight in the last 3 months. She's looking more like a little toddler and less like a baby to me... sniff, sniff. She's doing all sorts of neat things. She helps mommy and daddy load and unload the flatware in the dishwasher, and she's really good about cleaning up her toys. She climbs up and down stairs now (which is nice if one of us is downstairs and the other upstairs because she can float between us.) And as you can see in the pictures, she likes to play dress up in daddy's shirt and mommy's shoes. She loves to dance and sing and walk all over. Its fun!

On a final note, we had a lovely valentine's day. I attended a cho-LESS-terol class at our clinic till 8pm and Doug and Sariah went to story time at the library, but Doug and I had a nice dinner of chinese takeout after class. Sariah enjoyed making lots of fun valentine's related crafts.

So hopefully I can catch back up and post more now. Although, we're not expecting any more snow till next Monday, so maybe we'll enjoy our freedom from the house (as soon as the ice melts from the roads!)

Family Dinner

Sariah has been spending a lot of time lately climbing up on chairs. Often I've found her on a chair at the table, sneaking food off her tray that I've left there. She likes to sit on her very own chair when we go places, like church. So we decided to go ahead and get her a booster seat for the dining room table. She's not sitting there for every meal, just the ones that aren't going to be messy. She still likes her high chair, so she sits there if we're having spaghetti or something.

Last night was the first night we all got to sit down together and have a family meal at the table. Yay!

He made it!

Doug made it home! Unfortuantely, the car got stuck trying to get into our driveway! But after much labor and snow shoveling and spinning of tires and pushing.... its in the garage now. If only we didn't have to leave again until June...

6 More Weeks of Winter?

I honestly don't know if that groundhog (do they use a badger here?) saw his shadow or what, but I'm seriously done with winter. This is just our latest, major, snow storm. It was novel the first couple of times, but after a constant, snowy (I'm talking almost every other day of shoveling) winter, I'm burnt out.

This is my drive way, that thing at the end of it is my recycling can, the reason I was shoveling the drive (for the second, but not last, time today.)
These are my front steps, I know it doesn't look like steps, but they're under there some where.
The view from the end of the drive. Yes I only shoveled one half, its all I have the heart to do right now!
My front lawn (I think the lawn is still under there somewhere.)
Another view from the garage.
Here I am! Yes, I had to put on my whole skiing outfit to go out, the wind is blowing like crazy! I'm even wearning my ski pants because they were much warmer than jeans.
Sariah stayed inside and watched the Wiggles. She was not happy about being left alone. Poor baby has a runny nose and a cough today. Currently, she's taking her 3rd nap.

So if we ever uncover ourselves from this snow, I recommend spending next winter somewhere warmer! Right now I'll just settle for Doug getting home safe from work tonight, and a little less shoveling in my future!

The 1st Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

I was really excited to hear about the news conference today announcing the new presidency of the church. There is great work to be done, and I know these men are up to the challenge. The new President of the church is Thomas S. Monson, his first Counciler, Henry B. Eyring and his second Counciler, Dieter F. Uchtdorf.

I just want to express the peace, love & gratitude I feel from my Heavenly Father about these men chosen to lead his church. I know they'll be inspired to lead us in the right direction.

A funny side note from my mission: While serving in Bamberg, we were several times stopped on a street by a man who angerly told us that the name of "Our" church was wrong in the local paper and that we should fix it. (Once we almost hit him while he was walking his dog and we came around a corner on our bikes.) Confused, since neither my companion or I had seen this man at church, we stopped to ask him his name, the third time around. He replied "Do you know Elder Uchtdorf of the 70ies? He's my brother."

Later, on hearing that Elder Uchtdorf was coming to Germany with Pres. Monson for a conference and then would be coming to visit his brother in Bamberg (which I don't know if Elder Uchtdorf actually came, as I had been transferred the month before the supposed visit), Bro. Uchtdorf started attending church again and demanded a calling. He even took us out for ice cream, telling the man behind the counter not to give us any ice cream with alchohol or coffee in it. He then told us that he was a "bad Mormon" but it was okay because his brother was a member of the seventy and would get him into heaven. I can only imagine what he thinks now. :)

edited to add: I hear from a friend from Bamberg (Hi Melanie!) That Bru. Uchtdorf passed away 3 years ago. I always appreicated his character and wish him and his family well. :)

Let Them Eat Cake!

It was Sis. Nielsen's birthday on Thursday, so I made her this cake, fit for a missionary!
Its fun to have sisters in our ward! We also invited the other ward missionaries, the Brandon's and some investigators (none who could make it :( ) They're good girls & I'm glad we can help and serve.

In other news, Sariah's sick, my poor, poor baby! Last night, she started crying at 9:20 and I went in to check on her. Normally I don't, I just let her fall back asleep, but for some reason I did this time. As I was carrying her into the kitchen to get some milk (because she felt feverish) she started vomiting! I felt so bad for her! It was the first time she's really vomited. We got her cleaned up & bathed and I rocked her back to sleep. She's feeling much better today, no more vomitting, but she's still fighting a fever. She's been cranky and cuddly (the cuddly I don't mind.) Tonight I was on the phone with my mom and she fell asleep on my shoulder, it was so cute! I hope she feels better tomorrow!

Husband and Wife

What's funny is I just read this on Mary's blog, but didn't get tagged there, instead I got tagged when I read Susan's blog (teach me for reading!) Actually I'm kinda excited, so here it goes... (BTW, are you reading? are you married? TAG!)

1. What is your husband's name? Douglas Alan

2. How long have you been together? Since the 4th of July 2005, Married on the 21st of Dec. 2005

3. How long did you date? We knew eachother for about 6 weeks before we actually started officially dating, which lasted another 6 weeks, total time? 3 months!

4. How old is he? 25, old enough to rent a car and get lower car insurance! (finally!)

5. Who eats more? I do, but that's because most days doug forget to each lunch while at work, no matter how much I pester him!

6. Who said I love you first? I really don't remember, but I know he said it first in German because it meant more to me then!

7. Who is taller? Oops - Doug by an inch, but I really think its because I'm shrinking!

8. Who sings better? I guess I do? I love Doug's voice, but he refuses to use it as much. (In his defense, choir after church would make 5 hours of meetings on Sundays, and I don't wish that on him!)

9. Who is smarter? Doug definately.

10. Whose temper is worse? Mine, it comes from having brothers. I'm much better at controling it now.

11. Who does the laundry? I usually do, but Doug'll do it now and again

12. Who does the dishes? Mainly Doug, I hate dishes with a passion that goes beyond body & soul. He's a sweetheart and comes home from work and does them. I help dry. :)

13. Who sleeps on the right side of the bed? If looking at the bed, Doug does. It changes though depending on where we are. I have to be close to the bathroom, I don't know why.

14. Who pays the bills? I do. I'm the internet savy one, so I pay the bills online and write the checks. Doug is the finacial guru though. We do finances together, but he balances the budget.

15. Who mows the lawn? Doug's the pro.

16. Who cooks dinner? Me, because I love to cook.

17. Who drives when you are together? I do for 2 reasons. A) I'm a horrible passenger, I'd rather be in control and 2) Doug has no sense of direction, so we get places faster and with less stress if I drive.

18. Who is more stubborn? Me, and I'll fight you to the death if you try and disprove me. ;)

19. Who is the first to admit when they are wrong? Usually we do it at the same time.

20. Whose parents do you see the most? Mine (and I feel really guilty about it.)

21. Who proposed? Doug. (but I knew it was coming)

22. Who is more sensitive? Me, all those womenly hormones and junk

23. Who has more friends? Me, but none of them live close.

24. Who has more siblings? That's an even split.

25. Who wears the pants in the family? Doug, I prefer skirts ;)

26. Where did you meet? At a practice for the Youth Jubilee for the San Antonio Temple Dedication. The YSAs were involved.

27. What was the first thing you said to your husband? I think he had asked if he could come sit by me (after learing we had served in the same mission) so I think it was something along the lines of "Really?...Sure!"

28. Where was your first date? I'm not really sure. Does the lunch at his parents house the day we met count? Or the time we got together as friends and made German food? That was all before we were offically going out. Maybe it was the 4th of July Parade in Fredricksburg...

29. Where was your first kiss? At the Playground at my apartment complex.

30. Where did you get engaged? In his parent's living room. His parents were not there!

31. Where were you married? The San Antonio, Texas Temple

32. Where was the honeymoon? Fredricksburg, Texas at a little B&B, it was so nice. Fredricksburg is our town!

33. If you could have changed anything about it what would it have been? nope, can't think of changing a thing!
